History of polka dot dress
The 1926 Miss America, Miss Norma Smallwood was photographed in a polka dot swimsuit. This made most Americans fall in love with the polka dots. The Disney introduced its cartoon darling mimic mouse wearing a red polka dot dress and matching bow in 1928. During the 1930s many stores stocked the polka dotted dresses.
The word polka is derived from polish. Which stands for “polish woman”. In Czech Republic, it means “little woman or girl”. Polkamania was a dance that was popular in the mid-19th century. Then polka jackets were introduced as the polka craze swept across the continent. Then polka hats but neither of them were spotted and finally the polka dot.

Accessories for polka dot dress
The type of accessories you depend on the size of the polka dots on the dress. For large polka dots, go for large accessories.
If the dots are smaller, go for smaller accessories and one large one. A colorful scarf can substitute a hat, a belt, and a necklace. If you accessorize more the attention will be on the accessories and not on the polka dots.
Accent the dress with large flower pinned on your waist or in your hair. If you choose this do not add belt, hat or large purse. Use the flower as the main accessories. Use a bright color for the flower such as Red flower for white and black polka. Use a simple pair of sandals or pumps.
